When someone in Coimbatore searches "bakery near me" or someone in Hyderabad looks for "physiotherapy Gachibowli", Google shows three businesses on a map before anything else. Those three get most of the calls.
Your Google Business Profile decides whether you are one of them. Here is the checklist we use with local businesses.
1. Get the basics exactly right
- Business name exactly as on your signboard — no extra keywords
- Correct pin location, address and service areas
- Phone number that is answered, plus WhatsApp if you use it
- Accurate opening hours, including festival holidays
2. Choose categories carefully
Your primary category matters more than almost anything else. Pick the one that best describes your main service, then add secondary categories for everything else you genuinely offer.
3. Add real photos — and keep adding them
Profiles with recent, genuine photos of the storefront, team, products and interiors get more direction requests and clicks. Add a few new photos every week.
4. Make reviews a habit
Ask every happy customer, at the right moment. A short WhatsApp message with a direct review link, or a QR code at the billing counter, works far better than hoping. Reply to every review — politely and personally, especially the negative ones.
5. Post weekly
Offers, new arrivals, festival greetings, event updates — posts show Google and customers that you are active. Pongal, Onam, Ugadi and Deepavali are perfect moments.
6. Answer the questions
Add common questions and answers yourself: parking, payment options, languages spoken, home delivery. It saves calls and helps the right customers choose you.
The 15-minute weekly routine
- Upload 3 new photos
- Publish 1 post
- Reply to every new review
- Check hours and details are still correct
Done consistently for three months, this routine alone moves many local businesses into the map pack.
